James Rivers Tribute with Peter ChoSnug Harbor celebrates the remarkable legacy of New Orleans saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and Tremé native James Rivers, who passed away on July 5, 2026, at age 89. A beloved figure in New Orleans music, Rivers enjoyed a career spanning more than seven decades. He mastered tenor, alto and soprano saxophone, flute, harmonica, vocals, and even bagpipes, bringing his distinctive sound and versatility to jazz, blues, R&B, funk, gospel, and rock. He toured and recorded with legendary artists including Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Huey , "rdquo" -> Piano" Smith & the Clowns, Deacon John, Professor Longhair, Earl King, and Allen Toussaint, and his playing can be heard on classic New Orleans recordings including Frankie Ford's , "rdquo" -> Sea Cruise" and Al Johnson's , "rdquo" -> Carnival Time."
